Our Syros Guide
What to see?
Our beloved Syros, often called “The Lady of the Cyclades,” is the administrative capital of the region and an island known for its cultural sophistication, rich history, and timeless charm. We hope you take some time to explore and enjoy it as much as we do.
Ermoupoli
Unlike the typical whitewashed arid Cycladic landscape, the capital was once one of the most important commercial ports in the Mediterranean — a legacy you can still feel in its neoclassical architecture, vibrant marble squares, colourful grand mansions, hidden courtyards, that create a unique atmosphere.
Take a walk through Miaoulis Square, dominated by the Town Hall designed by the architect Ernst Ziller, and wander through the town’s charming streets filled with cafés, boutiques, and seaside restaurants.
If you have time, we recommend visiting:
- The elegant Vaporia neighbourhood and Ciel Beach, a unique seaside deck swimming spot beneath the seafront neoclassical mansions
- Saint Nicholas Cathedral in the Vaporia district
- Apollon Theatre, a beautiful 19th-century theatre inspired by La Scala in Milan
- The open air local market street
Ano Syros
Above the town rises Ano Syros, a medieval Catholic settlement with narrow alleys, bougainvillea-covered steps,
Perched above the town is Ano Syros, a medieval Catholic settlement built by the Venetians. Its narrow alleys, dense architecture, bougainvillea-covered stairways and panoramic sunset views over the Aegean sea.
Climb to the Church of Saint George at the top of the hill for breathtaking views over the town, the harbor, and the endless blue of the Aegean.
